Why treat rust before coating?

Applying a coating over untreated rust is one of the most common — and costly — mistakes in roof restoration. Rust continues to spread beneath the coating, causing blistering, peeling, and premature failure. Our Rust Converter neutralises the problem at the source, giving your roof coating system a clean, stable foundation and ensuring your investment in a quality topcoat actually performs as it should.

How to use

Clean the surface — remove loose rust, dirt, and debris with a wire brush or scraper. For best results, treat with Muckoff first to eliminate any biological growth.
Apply the Rust Converter — brush evenly onto all rusted areas, ensuring full coverage. The product will darken as it reacts with the iron oxide.
Allow to cure — rust converts in about 30 minutes and is fully cured in 2–4 hours. Then apply your topcoat. Times vary with temperature and humidity; see the Rust Converter data sheet.
Apply your topcoat — once cured, apply two coats of S300 Roof Coating, or S400 Waterproof Coating where you need a waterproof membrane.
